What Is Causing Your Soft, Spongy Brakes

Car problems can be scary. Brake issues should never be taken lightly. It's important to keep up with routine maintenance to avoid problems. Properly working brakes should feel firm when pressed.. If it feels soft, you could be in danger..

Brakes feel soft for a variety of reasons. The most common is air in the brake lines, which is resolved by bleeding the lines. Another common problem is rusted or worn parts, such as the brake lines, wheel cylinders, or disc brake calipers. Over time, they corrode, causing brake fluid leaks. The master cylinder, which holds and delivers brake fluid to the brakes, commonly wears out, causing it to leak fluid and drops the hydraulic pressure.

Should you suspect that any of these is causing your spongy breaks, take your car to a mechanic immediately. Head on over to Acura of Johnston and we will service your car for you!
